Billy Joe “Bill” Sanders

Billy Joe “Bill” Sanders passed away on Jan. 9, 2021 in Elk City at the age of 84. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Douglas Martin and Matthew Biffle officiating. Interment followed at Walters Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Bill was born Feb. 24, 1935 in Walters to Joe and Eunice Sanders. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He worked for Micah Manufacturing, and then McDonald Douglas/Boeing Aircraft in Los Angeles, Calif. before retiring in 1995 and returning to Duncan. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He married Martha Walpole and later married Leta Sanders.

Survivors include six daughters: Janet Kovac and husband Rudy, Bullhead City, Ariz., Vickie Lavengood and husband Ray, Riverside, Calif., Leeann Young, Walters, Sharon Evans and husband Wayne, Duncan, Becki Linker, Los Angeles, Calif., and Debbie LeFrancois and husband Richard, Placentia, Calif.; one son, James Tate, Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Marylee Webber, and two brothers, Johnny Sanders and Ronnie Cunningham; 14 grandchildren, and 24great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eunice Sanders, wife Leta Sanders, son-in-laws, Tinker Biffle, Steve Young, and Erick Linker, a grandson Michael Long, great-granddaughter Trisha Long, and great-great grandson Michael C. Long.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dexter Troutman, Matthew Biffle, Seth Biffle, Kasper Hamilton, Andrew Martin, and Doug Martin.
