June 16, 2021

Jeanetta F. Love, 102, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 at Elk Crossing Nursing and Rehab in Duncan.

Jeanetta was born December 30, 1918 to William Edward and Susie Akin Funkhouser southwest of  Comanche, Oklahoma. She lived in Comanche and Meridian most of her life. Jeanetta married her High School Sweetheart, Jay W. Love, in Meridian Oklahoma on June 1, 1936. He preceded her in death on Oct, 30, 1997. They were married 61 years. Jeanetta graduated from Comanche High School in 1937.

Jeanetta and Jay had four sons, Rodney, Jim, Terry and Joe, they took pride in the men they became.

Jay and Jeanetta lived in Oklahoma City where she worked at Douglas Aircraft Company as a “Rosie the Riveter,” installing the conduit line on C-47’s during WWII. When they moved back to Meridian, she worked at the Meridian School Cafeteria as a cook. She, Jay and Wayne and Ila Funkhouser owned Meridian Grocery Store until she went to work for Arkla Gas Company, before retiring from the City of Comanche as the Treasurer in 1980.

Jeanetta loved to play golf and bridge with her sister Gwen Howard. She loved watching golf, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She loved quilting and was always experimenting in the kitchen. Her heart and soul belonged to First United Methodist Church in Comanche where she served her community and church for most of her life. She loved singing in the church choir and she was especially happy to sing when her sister, Gwen, would accompany her on the piano. She was an avid reader and loved her crossword puzzles. It was her mission to learn something new every day. She would drop everything she was doing when her grandchildren came to visit. Her favorite grandchild was … ALL of them! She had a way to make each feel like they were her favorite, to her nothing was more important than enjoying every moment with family.
