Lady Indians wrap up summer camps

The Comanche Lady Indians wrapped up their summer camp schedule last week. They participated in camps at Sulphur, Cache and Kingston over the course of the past month.

“I thought our camps went really well,” said Megan Robbins, girls head coach. “At our third team camp (Cache) we were a little bit groggy on Monday. We played in a tournament (Tuesday) and played a lot better. We finished in the top four. We were one game out of the finals. We lost to a 6A school by three or four points and we only had six our seven healthy bodies. I was real proud how the kids were able to grind it out.”

The Lady Indians have three regular starters coming back and will be looking for a couple more players to step up.

“We have a good group coming back,” Robbins said. “They are finding new areas where they can help this year. We grew as a team this summer. We’re figuring some things out and it is a good set up for the rest of the summer when we’ll be getting in the weight room. Overall, I’m very happy with what the kids did this summer.”

Robbins said she and her team are learning to connect and get used to each other since she had to miss a chunk of last season due to maternity leave.

The Comanche girls team consists of three seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and eight freshmen. They lose four seniors off of last year’s squad. Overall, there are 10 returners from last year’s squad.

“They handled the transition pretty well,” Robbins said. “We have some kids that are finally healthy that didn’t play much last year. With a new coach, you don’t know what to expect. It’s always a big plus when you have the same coach. Overall, they are a little more familiar with what we are trying to do and it makes it an easier transition. It’s a good group of seniors and underclassmen.”
