Indians advance to semis with win over Bronchos

by Todd Brooks

It took a little while for the Comanche boys to get going in their opening game of the Stephens County Tournament on Tuesday night against host Central High. Once the Indians made a few small changes going from short jumpers to attacking the basket with a smaller lineup on the floor their fortunes changed. They would take control and advance to the semifinals with a 53-35 win.

Comanche had to overcome some hot shooting by the Bronchos in the first half as they knocked down four three-pointers to keep the Indians within striking distance.

Central High took the lead at the 5:32 mark of the first quarter on the first of Kole Scott's back-to-back three-pointers. The Bronchos led by as much as 7-2 before the Indians closed out the final two minutes on an 8-0 run, led by Landon Ellis, who scored six straight points. Landon and his two brothers, Dillon and Myles, accounted for 35 of Comanche's 53 points on the night.

Comanche was able to extend its lead in the early part of the second quarter. The Bronchos never got closer than five points in the second quarter as the Indians took a 25-18 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Indians prevented the Bronchos from going on any runs as they slowly added to their lead the rest of the way.

Comanche will now play Velma-Alma in the semifinals on Thursday at 5:20 p.m.
