Walter Lee “Buzz” Carter

Walter Lee “Buzz” Carter, a longtime resident of Comanche, was promoted to his heavenly home on March 31, 2022 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 73 years old. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Viewing will begin on Sunday, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Buzz was born July 28, 1948 in Eldorado, Arkansas, to Walter Brownie and Allie Headrick Carter. He graduated from Comanche High School in 1966. He and Lee Ann Humphries were united in marriage on May 3, 1975 at Meridian Baptist Church. They were soon to celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary. Buzz owned and operated Carter’s Car Country for many years. He was an accomplished musician, playing bass guitar. He played in several bands, The Trek, during his high school days, also The Rubber Band, Little Bit Country Band, and was currently lead singer for the Shadowriders. Buzz was music leader at several churches throughout the years; Memorial Heights Baptist Church, Gonzales, Texas; Rosanky Baptist Church, Rosanky, Texas; Meridian Baptist Church, north of Comanche; Eastside Baptist Church, Marlow; and Providence Baptist Church, north of Comanche. Buzz loved to fish, work in his garden, and was known to make the best breakfasts! He dearly loved spending time with his family. His constant companion was his faithful dog, Rambo.

Survivors include his wife, Lee Ann, of the home; three daughters: Lisa Brown, Comanche; Shelly Prather and husband Colt, Christiana, Tennessee; and Kristal Banks, Lawton; nine grandchildren: Blake Brown and wife Caroline; Boston Brown and wife Sandra; Baylea Myears and husband Jacob; Carter Banks and wife Lokota; Lea Banks and fiancé Keaton; Talli Banks; Shianne Prather, Ridge Prather, and Shaylee Prather; nine great-grandchildren: Gavin, Jude, Savannah, Shepard, Saxon, Soleil, Kehlani, Mika, and Timaja; one sister, Deloris Branch; and many other relatives and countless dear friends.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Brownie and Sis Carter; a brother, Eldon Sears, and a sister, Gearldine Howard and her husband Keith Howard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Brown, Boston Brown, Carter Banks, Ridge Prather, Jacob Myears, Danny Branch, and Scott Howard. Honorary bearers will be Jiggs McEntire, Jim Coast, and Gary Goree.
