Fall Fest a success for Comanche

by Todd Brooks

Nice weather laid the groundwork for a successful Fall Fest sponsored by the Comanche Ag Boosters on Halloween last Saturday. It was the only local city-wide celebration as other cities’ celebrations were held on different days or were canceled all together.

Vendors were set up side-by-side for most of the Main Street block and extending beyond to the other side of Rodeo.

“We had approximately 20 different vendors and people of all ages young and old,” said Kerry Cox of the Comanche Ag Boosters. “We did very well in our fundraising for our livestock team and had a great time. The cornhole tournament did well and donated all proceeds to Toys for Tots. The police department had plenty of visitors to their booth where they gave rides in the car with lights and sirens. The Lady Indians’ basketball team was recognized for their Academic All State. The Chamber Costume Contest and Trick or Treat Main Street was a huge success.”

Cox said overall she thought everyone enjoyed the experience.

“Our community always comes forward to support each other and have a good time,” Cox said. “We appreciate everyone who participated and look forward to next year.”

Shelbi Morgan, who sponsors the Comanche FFA along with her husband James, agreed.

“It was a great day. The weather was great, we had a lot of various booths set up and so many community members that came out,” Morgan said. “We are very fortunate to live in such a supportive community.”

Along with the consensus of being a great day for Fall Fest, there was also agreement about the way the community supported the event.

“I feel we had a great turnout,” said Chuck Ralls, city manager. “It was good to see people in Comanche and to see the city alive again. I understand there are still concerns regarding COVID and there have been many local families affected. Through this pandemic many of our local businesses have struggled and the Fall Fest was a much needed adrenalin shot for them.”

It was also good to see the smiling faces of children.

“I loved seeing all the kids in their costumes running all over the place,” Ralls said. “I didn’t get to see them all but I thought the Tank and Cruella De Vil were excellent costumes. I’m looking forward to the next Main Street event.”
