Johnnie Mae Clinger

Johnnie Mae (Montgomery) Clinger, age 85, a longtime resident of Comanche, entered into her Heavenly home on Tuesday evening, Oct. 13, 2020 at Duncan Regional Hospital.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 20  at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial followed at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. 

Johnnie was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Temple to James “Jim” Watson and Edna (Howard) Montgomery. She attended school at Comanche, and then attended Texas Tech University.  She married Benjamin Hurst in 1960. She later married Gerald Clinger in 1967. Johnnie came to Comanche in 1977, moving from Lubbock, Texas. She had also made her home in Riverside, California, and Benson, Arizona. Johnnie loved to shop, and she was quite good at it too. She was an excellent cook, and she looked forward to preparing wonderful family meals during the holidays and for birthdays. She also enjoyed needlepoint, playing the piano, and reading. Always by her side was her constant companion, her dog “Gizmo.” Johnnie was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Greg Hurst and his wife Ann, Tulsa;  six grandchildren: Jimmy Hurst and wife Hallie, Dana Dunlap and husband Randy, Trenton Hurst, Jennifer Hurst, Abigayle Hurst, and Austin James; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as many dear friends.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Edna Montgomery; one daughter, Janet Sue Yarbrough; her husband, Gerald Clinger; former husband Benjamin Hurst; three siblings: Claude Everett Montgomery, Myrtle Lee Martin, and Edith Juanita Jackson; a great-grandson, Ezekiel David Andrew Hurst, her companion, Pat Morgan, and “Tinsy” her beloved dog.
