School board holds January meeting

The Comanche Board of Education met in regular session Jan. 10. Board members approved various routine consent agenda items, including the minutes of the December board meeting, activity fund reports, and the treasurer’s report. The board also approved General Fund, Co-op, and Building Fund encumbrances.

In additional reports from Superintendent Bills, board members learned that professional development was scheduled for Jan. 16 with discussions focusing on learning gaps by departments and co-subject groups. Other items discussed by staff will include attendance, advocacy, upcoming testing, test-taking skills, biggest challenges, security, and next year’s calendar options. Teachers will also have time to analyze benchmark data and plan for student improvement.

January is School Board Appreciation Month. Superintendent Bills expressed her gratitude to the members for their time and dedication to the district. Charlie Gay, Amy Shelby, Thomas Winton, and Cody Gerard were recognized for their continued service to the district. The superintendent expressed her gratitude to Cheryl Pannell for her dedication to the district as a board member and the board accepted her resignation.

Superintendent Julie Bill was approved for a one-year extension of her two-year contract after board members discussed the annual superintendent’s evaluation.

The board also approved the hiring of Gary Robinson as Head Football Coach for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
