Comanching students faring well at OYE

The Oklahoma Youth Expo began March 8 and continues through this Friday. Through Monday, several Comanche students found success in the show ring and other places.

Last week in the Agriculture Mechanics Contest, Comanche had two teams place high in the standings.

Braxton Fenton and Hollister Pollock placed second in class with their hydraulic bale spike and were bronze overall in the Agriculture Machine and Equipment Division.

Payton Jones and Koble Lewis placed first in class and won the Outdoor Recreation and Convenience Division. They went on to win third overall project out of 200-plus entrants, bringing home the Bronze Medallion.

On day one of the show ring, Raylen Parks won the commercial heifer class and went on to be Reserve Division 1 Champion and Emaleigh Parks placed third with her commercial heifer. Emaleigh’s heifer was one that she and Raylen raised.

At the Stephens County Jr. Livestock Show, they showed five heifers, three of which they raised and did extremely well with all of them.

Also on day one, Paxton Jones exhibited his dark cross gilt and made the big ring.

On day two, doe and heifer showmanship was on the schedule. Crosbee Padgett exhibited her doe in a large and competitive class.

Caity Ramsey and Koble Lewis both competed in the Heifer Senior Showmanship Class and advanced to the finals.

On day three, Ramsey won Reserve breed Champion with her Mini Hereford Heifer. Padgett placed ninth with her doe goat out of more than 35 entries.

On day four, Clara Cross won Reserve Division 1 Anjou Heifer and was first and third in her class with her Maine Anjou heifers.

Kate Cross won Reserve Champion Bred and Owned with her Maine Anjou heifer. She was also second in class with her Maine Anjou and fourth in class with her Maintainer heifers.

Harli Young exhibited her two hair sheep ewes. Josey Harris was third in class with her shorthorn heifer and Paige Pollard exhibited her commercial ewe.

On day five, Ty Martin’s Simmental heifer placed fourth in class. Koble Lewis’s Polled Hereford heifer placed Reserved Division 6 champion.

He also picked up a third in class with his other polled Hereford heifer.
