Indians hit Spring Break on high note

The Comanche baseball team headed into Spring Break with some momentum by going 3-0 last week. The Indians defeated Empire, Latta and Plainview as they moved to 6-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to five games.

Last Tuesday, the Indians picked up a 4-2 win over Empire.

Comanche trailed 1-0 through three innings before scoring three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Colby Shannon had a two-run single in the inning to put the Indians ahead.

Payton Jones and Kooper Doucet both went 2-for-3 with Doucet getting a double and Jones an RBI. Ian Essex, Gabe Diaz and Colby Shannon all went 1-for-2.

Shannon was the winning pitcher and Brady Dobbins picked up the save.

In the second game of the day, Comanche beat Latta, 3-2. Latta is ranked seventh in Class 2A.

Dobbins picked up an RBI single and Gabe Diaz scored on an error in the bottom of the first to give the Indians the early lead. Landon Steele also had a big hit that helped keep the inning alive.

Ian Essex was the winning pitcher for Comanche.

On Friday, Comanche scored three runs in the sixth inning to down visiting Plainview, 6-4.

The game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Indians took the lead for good.

In the inning, Ian Essex hit a bases-loaded double that scored Dobbins and Payton Jones. The final run of the inning came on a passed ball that allowed Doucet to score.

Essex and Gunner King both went 2-for-3 in the game. Diaz, Dobbins and Doucet had the other three hits.

Essex and Doucet both had doubles in the contest.

Diaz was the winning pitcher while Essex picked up the save.
