Rounds seeks re-election

When Sharon Rounds ran for Comanche City Council in 2019, she had no idea what all to expect.

“I had never been interested in politics,” Rounds said.

Now, with four years under her belt, Rounds is seeking re-election for her Ward No. 3 seat.

“It’s been an eye-opener,” Rounds said. “I knew nothing about city government. I wasn’t even into any of this stuff in high school. I just went in there and learned month by month. It’s been quite the experience. I’m glad I did it, though. It helps me understand more about city government and politics on both sides of the field.”

While she acknowledges that you cannot make everyone happy, she does do what she thinks is best.

“You basically have to make a decision with your heart and your mind making sure you are making the right one,” Rounds said.

Rounds was born and raised in Comanche. She left the area several years ago, but has been back in Comanche for the past 20 years.

And while it can be a thankless job sometimes, she does also enjoy serving the people of Comanche.

“I enjoy being on there to make the right decisions for the City of Comanche and not just the city (government) but Comanche as a whole. There are times where we don’t agree on everything and times when we do. I have learned to speak my opinion. If there’s something I don’t understand, I will ask a question and make sure I do.”

Rounds see Comanche as heading in the right direction, but she thinks there is room for improvement.

“I think we are going in the right direction, but there are a few things that I’d like to see like the housing addition,” Rounds said. “Not only the nice $200,000 houses, but also housing for low income because we don’t have enough. If we don’t have the houses then we don’t have housing available people won’t move in. Not everybody lives in a big tax bracket. That’s part of the reason I’m on there, I’m one of the poor ones (laughs). I’m one of the ones that struggle. I’m not retired. I respect all the people I’m on the council with. They’re all good people.”
