Sheriff's deputies honored for life-saving measures

Two Stephens County Sheriff’s Department deputies were recognized last week for providing life-saving care to two victims while on duty.

Deputies Ron Pruitt and Ryland Brammer were each awarded a Life Saving Medal for their actions from Stephens County Undersheriff Rick Lang on Jan. 18.

“I am forever grateful for Deputy Pruitt, Deputy Brammer and all of the dedicated people of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office,” Lang said.

On Jan. 1, 2023, deputy Pruitt responded to an accidental gunshot wound in Stephens County. Deputy Pruitt quickly assessed the victims wounds and although the victim had a makeshift tourniquet in place he was still bleeding. Deputy Pruitt applied his own tourniquet and used available materials to apply pressure to help stop the bleeding until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital and medi-flighted to OU Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

On Dec. 18, 2023, deputy Brammer responded to a “fight with weapons” call in Stephens County. On arrival, Deputy Brammer found an individual lying in a pool of blood. Brammer assessed the individual as having two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Brammer quickly began first aid to slow the bleeding and continued until emergency medical personnel arrived. The individual was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital and then medi-flighted to OU Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
