Billy Bryan Sorrell

Billy Bryan Sorrell was born southwest of Comanche, on April 17, 1929, to Thomas Joseph Sorrell and Blanche Ella (Sears) Sorrell and passed from this life on Feb. 22, 2024, at the age of 94. Funeral Services were Feb. 26. at Patterson Ave. Baptist Church in Comanche. Burial followed at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche.

Bill was born the second child of 11 children and grew up during the depression. They grew cotton and farmed in southwest Oklahoma. His parents helped him develop his non-stop work ethic. Many thought of him as the hardest working man they had ever known.

He married Mary Lavonne Lindesmith on July 8, 1948, and together they had four children. They lived in Cactus, Texas where Bill worked as a welder for Phillips 66. In 1961 they bought a farm and moved back to southwest of Comanche. Bill ran a custom wheat harvesting operation where the family and crew followed the harvest during the summer from Texas to Wyoming for over 20 years. In 1984, Bill began his pecan orchard operation in Proctor, Texas, which led him to opening Sorrell’s Nut House south of Comanche. He was a wheat and hay farmer and cattle rancher. Bill was a long-time member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church. Lavonne proceeded him in death in 2002.

He married Wilma Greer in 2004 in Dublin, Texas. She proceeded him in death in 2009.

Bill loved hard work, grandchildren, fish fries, dominoes, friends, family reunions, his church, and most importantly serving God.

He is survived by his four children: Regina Apple, David (Peggy) Sorrell, Rosalind (Steve) Burrough, and Robin (Chris) Cain, and stepson Kelly (Wanda) Greer and his six grandchildren, Shane Apple, Crystal Sorrell, Cody (Autumn) Sorrell, Carli Sorrell, Braylen (Kaycie) Rogers, and Logan (Jamie) Rogers and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his six siblings: George Sorrell, Lois Barnes, Tommy Jo Anderson, Victor Sorrell, Shirley (Jay) Reese, Larry (Janice) Sorrell. He leaves behind a sweet friend Lavera Huffman.

He was proceeded in death by his sister, Polly Sorrell Mainer; his brothers James Sorrell, Glen Sorrell, and Harold Sorrell; his daughter-in-law Gina Sorrell; and his son-in-law Joel Apple.
