Boys basketball named state academic champs

The Comanche boys basketball season ended about a week-and-a-half ago, but they still will be receiving a trophy at this weekend’s state championship games in Oklahoma City.

The Indians were named the Class 3A State Academic Champions after posting a 3.897 GPA this past semester, the highest GPA for any Class 3A boys’ teams.

The team, coaches and administrators will be honored at halftime of the second state championship game on Saturday, which begins at 11:45 a.m.

“I’m super excited about the boys,” said Jason Schreiner, high school principal. “It’s quite an honor being recognized for success off the court. I’m proud of the work they put in on and off the court. It feels really good to be an academic champion.”
