March 14, 2024

The City of Comanche has announced the receipt of two grants from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful for its continued commitment to environmental stewardship and community beautification.

As an affiliate of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful for the past seven years, Comanche continues to prioritize initiatives that enhance the local environment and public spaces. The grants, awarded on Feb. 22, mark a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts.

The first grant, an environmental grant sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, amounts to $3,800. These funds will be dedicated to the purchase of a new glass crusher for the Comanche Recycling Center, slated to open this spring. This crucial addition will bolster recycling efforts within the community, aligning with Comanche’s dedication to sustainable practices.

In addition, the city received a $1,000 grant for roadside beautification, sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. This grant will facilitate the removal of dead and diseased trees from Jackson Park, ensuring the safety and well-being of park visitors. Comanche plans to replace the removed trees and augment the park’s greenery in the near future, collaborating with Oklahoma Forestry Services to further enhance the park’s natural beauty.

“These grants exemplify the City of Comanche’s unwavering commitment to environmental preservation and community enhancement,” said City Manager, Chuck Ralls “We are deeply grateful to Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for their support in realizing our vision for a greener, more vibrant Comanche.”

Ralls said the City of Comanche looks forward to continuing its partnership with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and other stakeholders to foster a sustainable, beautiful environment for generations to come.
