Indians will be road warriors
The 2024 Comanche football schedule has finally been set now that the OSSAA has approved the district realignments.
For the Indians, only Community Christian returns to the schedule from 2023 and it will be a district game once again as the teams moved to Class 2A-Division 2.
Comanche will be spending quite a bit of time on the road this season with six road games and only four home games during the regular season.
Comanche’s district will consist of Tishomingo, Coalgate, Dibble, Beggs, Davis, Community Christian and Holdenville.
The non-district games include S&S Consolidated out of Sadler, Texas, Wynnewood and Kingston.
Comanche will have a scrimmage at Healdton on Aug. 22 before opening the season with a week zero game at home against S&S Consolidated on Aug. 30. With the week zero game, Comanche will have an open date on Sept. 20.
The road trips will include Wynnewood, Kingston, Coalgate, Beggs, Davis and Holdenville.
According to Google Maps, that will be a total of 1,308 miles round trip to all six sites and it will take nearly 21 hours of bus-riding time round-trip. The longest trip will be to Beggs, 380 miles round-trip with more than six hours of bus-riding time. The closest trip will be to Davis, 114 miles round-trip with just over two hours of riding time.
“Before the private school lawsuit, we had five and five home and away games, but after the lawsuit, I had to change some things around and we could only get four home games,” Comanche coach Gary Robinson said. “It does mean the next year (2025) we will have six home games,”
Wherever they play or how long of a trip it turns out to be, Robinson said his team will be ready.
“The long road trips and only four home games are two negatives, but we’re going to go out there and compete every Friday night regardless of who it is,” Robinson said.
Special celebration nights include homecoming against Tishomingo on Sept. 27, Pee Wee Night against Dibble on Oct. 11 and Senior Night against Community Christian on Nov. 1.
All high school games will kickoff at 7 p.m. except Wynnewood, which will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
The high school will have another Midnight Madness at the stroke of mdinight on Aug. 5 to mark the first practice.
The junior high will be more fortunate with five home games and only two away games. All games kickoff at 5:30 p.m., except for Bridge Creek which will kickoff at 5 p.m.
