Sculpture dedication at CTHC

July 25, 2024

DUNCAN – Chisholm Trail Heritage Center staff are hosting a celebratory dedication for a new bronze created by Oklahoma sculptor, LaQuincey Reed, at 1 p.m., July 27 during their National Day of the Cowboy Celebration.

Reed is an elected member of the National Sculpture Society in Oklahoma City and has been commissioned by several organizations to create masterpieces. He has commissioned works in the Oklahoma State Capitol, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Cleveland County courthouse, and now, CTHC.

“We’ve known LaQuincey for several years now,” said Leah Mulkey, CTHC executive director. “When we started working on adding more materials representing the diverse individuals who made the Chisholm Trail so successful, we knew LaQuincey would be an amazing artist to help us utilize art to tell the story of Black cowboys.”

Reed’s bronze sculpture, “Get Up and Go,” depicts three Black cowboys and was originally on display at The Center in its clay form during his featured artist exhibit January-February 2023. “Get Up and Go” is now in its final form, bronze, and home at CTHC.

The dedication on NDOC is meant to honor Reed’s skills, artwork, and the history of Black Cowboys. Entry to NDOC and the dedication is free and open to everyone.
