Kingston's quick start too much for CHS

by Todd Brooks

KINGSTON - The Comanche Indians were not able to play spoiler for Kingston’s homecoming, falling to the Redskins, 42-6, last Friday.
Kingston (2-1) scored on their first four possessions with quarterback Reid Patterson and fullback Parks Ratzlaff leading the way.
Comanche’s offense did move the ball, but it was just not enough to pick up first downs, often finding themselves in fourth-and-1 situations in their own territory.
“There were so many times that we were in fourth-and-1 right there in that section of the field which made me decide whether or not to go for it,” said Gary Robinson, Comanche coach. “That’s what we talked about halftime was to work a little harder to get that extra yard. I thought we did move the ball a little bit, but they’re a really good football team. We knew that going in.”
The Redskins built a 35-0 halftime lead before a third-quarter touchdown pushed the lead to 42-0.
Comanche (1-2) got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Kruz Lile recovered a muffed punt by Kingston in the endzone for the Indian touchdown.
The biggest play of the game for the Comanche offense was a 50-yard reception by Rylan White from Colby Shannon. White caught the ball about 10 yards from the line of scrimmage, slipped a defender and raced about 40 more yards before getting knocked out of bounds.
The Indians have a much-needed bye week before they start district play next week when they host Tishomingo for homecoming.
“We’re hoping to heal up a little bit,” Robinson said. “We didn’t get banged up too bad against Kingston, but you know Ayden Reed’s out, (Clayton) Brantner, my right tackle, is out and Justin Mann, my right guard is out, so that’s the right side of the line. Reed is a big receiver and good defensive end and then in the scrimmage, our starting running back (Hollister Pollock) went out with a torn ACL.”
Robinson said Brantner and Mann may be back by the Tishomingo game.
“We’re coming up with a game plan to do some things they haven’t seen,” Robinson said. “It’s a big district game, it’s homecoming and we’re hoping to play really well and come up with the win, just like we did against S&S.”
One of the keys for the next week is staying focused with all the homecoming festivities.
“The best thing you can do is to keep talking to them about (staying focused),” Robinson said. “You have to talk to them about the importance of the game. You like to schedule your homecoming games for a non-district game. Unfortunately, our schedule worked out to where we only had four home games. This is only our second game and the other two home games are against some really stout opponents. I think they will be fine. They have matured and understand the significance of the game. If we win this game, we’ve got a good shot at winning the next two (Coalgate and Dibble)  and fighting for a district playoff spot.”
