Indian runners medal at conference meet
October 24, 2024
The Comanche cross country teams left the Canadian Valley Conference Meet in Lindsay with several top 10 finishers.
“We did pretty good,” said Jason Miller, head coach. “Brilee Combs has been really consistent in the high school girls division this year. I have a lot of confidence in her going into regionals this Saturday at Waurika. The boys did great. We were shorthanded, missing two runners and we still managed fourth place.”
Combs finished eighth overall with a time of 13:40.71 over the two-mile course.
The high school boys have placed in the top four in team rankings in every meet this year.
Aidan Frye has led the team all season, and the conference meet was no exception. He finished 13th overall with a time of 18:53.87 over the 5K course. Makisig Rogers (19:48.07) and Gage Jessen (19:50.97) were close behind in 16th and 18th places, respectively, as all three medaled. Hayden Harget (21:40.97) placed 32nd, and Kasyn Doss (23:33.42) finished 41st. All five runners finished with their best times of the year.
Both the junior high boys and girls took third place.
Hallie Ramsey led the girls with a fifth-place finish with a time of (10:48.90). Later in the week, she followed it up with an eighth-place finish at the Junior High All-Star Meet in Chickasha.
“She had an outstanding first-year season,” Miller said. “Taylor Frye placed eighth. She has improved every race. All the junior high girls impressed me at the meet.”
Frye (10:57.26) was followed by Ellie Schreiner (12:08.43) in 29th, Gabrielle White (12:16.60) in 31st and Hayliee Roy (12:57.51) rounded out the scorers in 37th place. Kaylee Stengel (13:03.63) was close behind in 38th and Dawn Rightmire (14:25.88) was in 51st.
Ridge Hall had the top finish for all Comanche runners, finishing fourth in the junior high race with a time of 12:50.71. Hunter Roebuck (13:27.61) also cracked the top 10, finishing eighth. Brody Combs (14:08.41) was third on the team in 17th place overall, followed by Kai Rendon (14:10.20) in 18th and Kaiden Davoult (15:07.56) rounded out scoring in 28th. Ayden Jones (16:11.82) was 35th and Bryson Vansickle (16:17.77) was 37th. The top four Comanche finishers all medaled.
The high school-only regional meet will begin at 12:30 p.m. for girls and 1:15 p.m. for boys at Waurika.
