Jerry Clyde Benson

Jerry Clyde Benson was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Comanche, to William Farris Benson and Alma Jewel (Dumas) Benson. He peacefully passed away, surrounded by his wife and children, on Friday evening, Nov. 1, 2024, at his home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 1 p.m. at Ray Of Hope Church. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  On Wednesday evening, the family will be receiving friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Jerry attended Comanche Public Schools. He met the love of his life, Joyce Shelby, and they were married on Oct. 16, 1954, in Waurika and made their home west of Comanche, where they still live after 70 years. 
They had three children: Larry, Karla, and Kerri. His kids and grandkids were the pride of his life.  He would travel countless miles for events they participated in.
Jerry and his brother, Jimmy, built houses all over southwest Oklahoma and he could fix just about anything. His career was with Halliburton Services, where he was a machinist. He worked in the upholstery shop with his Joyce for several years. Jerry was Stephens County road foreman for Commissioner Gary Ledford.
Jerry and Joyce were active members of First United Methodist Church in Comanche for most of his life. He truly walked the Christian life, and he never met a stranger. Everybody he met had an impact on them, and they always left feeling better.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, of the home;  a son, Larry Benson and wife Laura, Comanche; two daughters: Karla Benson, Comanche; and Kerri  Shipman and husband Mike, Edmond;  five grandchildren:  Ryan Benson and wife Candice, Washington; Clayton Seely and wife Teisha, Duncan; Grant Shipman, Houston; Meagan Early and husband Eric, Piedmont; and Sierra Reimer and husband Eric, Houston; eight great-grandchildren: Haskell Benson, Baker Benson, Rosie Benson, Ruthie Benson, Cayden Seely, Blake Early and wife Sharon, Elijah Early, and Kenlee Early, a brother in law,  Billy Fred Shelby and wife Donna.  Also his bonus brothers: Loyd Benson and wife Judy, Frederick; and Jimmy Ray Shelby and wife Kathy, Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jimmy Benson;  and two sisters, Mary Beck and Billie Louis Luckenbill.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry’s grandsons and great-grandsons.  Honorary bearers will be Ronnie Shelby, Jimmy Ray Shelby, Loyd Benson, Billy Shelby, and Gary Ledford
Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to Christian Helping Hands of Comanche,  Toys for Tots of Comanche, and the Stephens County Humane Society.
