The Comanche cross country teams wrapped up their season on Saturday at the Class 2A State Meet in Edmond. Brilee Combs was the lone runner for the Lady Indians and the Indians placed eighth as a team.
For the second year in a row, Brilee Combs medaled, placing 14th out of 135 runners with a time of 12:53.92 over the 3200-meter course.
“I was proud of our whole group,” said Jason Miller, head coach. “Brilee ran a tough race and led it in the first mile. I was really proud of her and how she finished the last straightaway. Most people don’t know how hard she trains and all the factors that can go into your performance each race.”
The Comanche boys placed eighth as a team with Aidan Frye placing 18th, narrowly missing medaling.
“The boys ran great. Aidan was just three spots away from medaling and he ran a personal best,” Miller said. “I was happy to see him get that. Gage Jessen also ran a personal best giving us two guys in the top 26 of 126 runners. Those two guys put us in a good scoring situation. Hayden Harget, Matthew Hunt, Christian Parris and Kasyn Doss ran tough.”
The Indians were also without Makisig Rogers, who missed the meet due to illness.
“I think all the other boys stepped up to try to make up for it,” Miller said. “I think we had our best race of the year based on each one’s overall performance. We placed eighth without a key runner and we were ranked 12th in our class, so I think we may have outperformed what was expected from us.”
Frye missed medaling by less than 15 seconds, finishing with a time of 17:58.62 over the 5K course. Jessen had a time of 18:25.50. Hunt placed 82nd followed by Harget in 93rd, Parris in 105 and Doss in 116th.
