Alumni basketball game this Saturday

Former Comanche High School basketball players will get one more shot at glory as they take on current players at an alumni event at the Comanche gym on Dec. 28.
A girls’ alumni team led by former coach Aaron Weast will take on coach Braydon Robinson’s 2024-25 team at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ alumni team coached by Heath Ellis against Anthony Bowie’s squad.
The event is free and open to the public.
Student Government Association advisor Jack Francis thought it would be a fun way for Comanche to come together.
“Our vision was to bring the alumni association back to Comanche,” Francis said. “What inspired me was when I saw the Comanche softball do it earlier this year. My kids who went through the basketball program said, ‘Let’s do that.’”
Francis got with Comanche coaches Robinson and Bowie and both were on board with the idea of an alumni game.
“I told coach Weast that I would love him to do the alumni game, I know the girls would love to play for him one more time,” Weast said. “I’d love to hear you say, ‘Unbelieveable,’ again.”
Ellis invested many years in the boys’ program, which is why Francis asked him to lead the boys’ alumni team.
“We’re going to have some EMTs and special trainers here for the alumni,” Francis joked. “It’s just going to be good to have everyone back and to hear their stories and what years they played. There will be a concession stand and some class will probably sell dinners, but we really just want to have some fun.”
The gym will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday to allow the alumni players to get the rust off their jumpshot.
“Hopefully, this will be something we can continue and build up,” Francis said.
