CHS' Vansickle throws no-hitter

by Todd Brooks

Carson Vansickle tossed a no-hitter as Comanche blanked Lawton Eisenhower last Friday in a 5-0 win.
Vansickle, a sophomore, had nine strikeouts and no walks while facing 25 batters. Only three errors kept Vansickle from pitching a perfect game.
Vansickle also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4, including a triple, with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
The game was scoreless through five innings before the Indians got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Vansickle led off the inning with a single and was bunted to second by Levi Slovak. Following a hit by pitch and a walk to Payton Jones and Clayton Brantner, respectively, to load the bases, Evan Dodd singled to drive in Vansickle from third.
Comanche added four more runs in the top of the seventh that included a single by Koble Lewis, a double by Cooper Dobbins and a triple by Vansickle. Slovak also picked up an RBI on a groundout.
Vansickle didn’t allow the pressure of a possible no-hitter get to him in the bottom of the seventh as he got a strikeout and a groundout for the first two outs and then struck out the next batter for the final out.
Comanche had five hits in the game, two by Vansickle and one each by Dodd, Dobbins and Lewis.
