Sherriff's office announces arrest of detention officer

Stephens County Detention Officer Christi Baird has been booked into Stephens County Jail on the charges of second-degree rape and sexual battery after the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office requested an OSBI investigation of Baird’s activity as a detention officer.
Baird had been employed with Stephens County Jail for approximately 4 years.
"The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to integrity, transparency and the protection of its citizens," said Rick Lang, Stephens County Sheriff, in a news release. "We have many Detention Officers who work with integrity and dedication to maintain a secure jail and a humane environment for the inmates. This type of incident hurts us all however we will continue to strive to serve the citizens of Stephens County. I would like to thank the OSBI for their hard work in this matter."
