Ruthie 'Jan' Cox

Ruthie Jeanette “Jan” Cox, 87, began her eternal life on April 4, 2025. Jan was born on March 3, 1938, at Patterson Hospital in Duncan to Henry Thurman and Cleo “Othella” (Pritchett) Morgan of Comanche. She was the youngest of four children. She was baptized at the age of 10 in a farm pond South of Corum and was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan. She attended Oak College School, west of Comanche, through her early years and later transferred to Comanche Public Schools.
Jan worked for many years at the Haggar Slack Factory as a seamstress. She also tended to the family farm while raising her family. Later in life she moved to Duncan and worked for the Woolf family as a caregiver and housekeeper for over 30 years. She officially retired in 2017 at the age of 80 when Patty Woolf passed away.
Jan was an exceptional cook. Her specialties were all homemade lasagna, biscuits, pie and ice cream. She enjoyed sewing and loved to go dancing at VFW. She was an active grandmother and loved watching her great-grandkids play sports. Her favorite hobby was watching sports on TV, especially OU. She was a big Sooner fan! Her latest accomplishment was being crowned Valentines Queen at Gregston’s Nursing Home. Jan had many friends and a devoted mother.
Jan is survived by her two sons, Danny Lee Cox of Comanche and David Lynn Cox and wife Kim of Marble City. She had four grandkids, Bryan and Eric Cox, both of Vian and Jessica Nelson and Sarah Shepard, both of Enid. She was an even prouder great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Charles “Edwin” Morgan, Elmer “Ray” Morgan and Ima Jean Wade.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
