McQuinn, Savage win city council elections
Dennis McQuinn and Dylan Savage were both winners in the Comanche City Council election held last Tuesday.
Four spots were up for election, but there were only two contested races that made the ballot. Current mayor and Ward One representative Smokey Dobbins ran unopposed. Newcomer Annetta Garlinger also ran unopposed in Ward Four. They join at-large member Brayden Harris, who was the only member whose seat was not up for grabs.
McQuinn, a local business owner, and Savage, an employee of Geo Correctional Facility in Lawton, won by wide margins. McQuinn defeated Michael Moore, a former city council member, 86-17, for the Ward Two spot. Savage defeated Michael Shuey, a current council member who was appointed last December to fill the vacated Ward 3 seat by Sharon Rounds, by a 76-27 margin.
Only 103 votes were cast by Comanche’s 788 registered voters, making it a 13 percent voter turnout.
Savage posted a thank you on April 1 to voters on his personal Facebook page.
“Thank you to all of the citizens of Comanche, Oklahoma who have faith in me and gave me your vote today,” the post read. “I won’t let you down. It’s time for a change. And we have the group to make that change.”
McQuinn also posted a thank you on his personal Facebook page.
“Thank you all for your confidence in me, I will do my best for the citizens of Comanche,” McQuinn said.
The new council members will be sworn in at the May city council meeting.
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
