Morrow to lead Lady Indians

Kaytlin Morrow knew she wanted to coach school softball eventually when her daughter, Sawyer, got to middle school. That opportunity might have come a little sooner than expected when a few weeks ago she got a call from a school district representative about becoming the head coach of the high school softball team.
“I thought, ‘Well, here we go,’” Morrow said after coaching her team in a Marlow Summer League game on Monday. “I’m just trusting in the timing.”
As of press time on Tuesday, Morrow had not officially been named as the new head coach replacing Jennifer White, because the school board was not scheduled to vote on the appointment until it’s July meeting on Tuesday evening. The same goes for assistant coach Brittany Patman.
Morrow is no stranger to Comanche. She was a small business owner for a few years before she and her family moved to Texas for a short time. They returned in 2023. She coached recreation league and also did one-on-one coaching.
The experience of working with the team so far has been a good one.
“They’ve all been really positive,” Morrow said. “They are a young group, but I’ve had no problems. They are really good about me helping them and they are eager to learn, so that makes me exited that they actually want to learn and they ask questions. Also we have great seniors this year and I’m excited to watch them lead the team.”
Morrow received all state honors as a shortstop at Healdton. She then attended Western Oklahoma College in Altus for two years before transferring to East Central University her final two seasons.
She has coached in recreation leagues for several years and this will be her first school coaching job.
“These girls understand more of what I’m saying most of the time,” Morrow said. “With the younger girls in the recreation leagues, I have to break it down. There’s still some things I like to utilize for younger girls and our high school girls because they want to have fun, and so that’s kind of what I’m hoping to help them bring back the fun and love for softball.”
Coaching takes up a lot of time, but Morrow said she feels right at home at the diamond.
“I really just love it,” Morrow said. “I was telling Chloe (Kinkaid) earlier, this is kind of my sanity whenever I’m at the field. I do my softball lessons and coach my rec teams. So, whenever I’m not at the softball field, I don’t really know what to do. It’s helped me get through some hard times and I utilize softball to get me through.”
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
