State Sales Tax Free Weekend returns
July 31, 2025
Oklahoma shoppers are gearing up for the state’s annual sales tax holiday, set to provide a brief reprieve from sales taxes on certain purchases this August. The event, designed to offer financial relief to families and stimulate retail activity, will take place from Friday, August 1, through Sunday, August 3, 2025.
During the three-day period, qualifying items will be exempt from state and local sales taxes. The holiday primarily targets back-to-school essentials, including most articles of clothing and footwear priced under $100. This initiative aims to ease the burden on parents preparing their children for the upcoming academic year.
Retailers across the state are expected to see increased foot traffic and sales as consumers take advantage of the savings. Many stores typically extend operating hours and offer additional promotions to coincide with the tax-free weekend, creating a bustling atmosphere in shopping centers and main streets alike.
State officials encourage consumers to check the Oklahoma Tax Commission’s website for a comprehensive list of eligible and ineligible items to ensure their purchases qualify for the exemption. While most clothing and footwear under the price cap are included, accessories, protective equipment, and items not considered “clothing” or “footwear” are generally excluded.
The sales tax holiday has become a popular annual tradition in Oklahoma, mirroring similar events held in other states. It provides a timely boost to the retail sector during a traditionally slower summer period while offering tangible savings to residents ahead of the new school year.
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
