Betty J. Snider Morris

Early in the morning hours of July 6, 2021, our beloved Betty J. Snider Morris passed peacefully at her home of more than 50 years in Sugden, Oklahoma from this life and into eternity. She was 86. 

Betty JoAnn Snider Morris was born on Dec. 30, 1934, in Waurika to parents Leroy and Mildred. She grew up in Waurika helping her parents with the cotton farm and attending and graduating from Irving High School. She married the love of her life, Robert L Morris, Sr. in October of 1953 and they were blessed with two children, Victoria (Vickie) and Robert Jr (Bobby). They built a home and raised their family together in Sugden. 

Betty, also known to family as “Mom, Aunt Betty and Nanny,” spent her life serving others as a cook in the Waurika and Ryan public schools and volunteering her cooking talents for the Lions and Kiwanis clubs, Ryan First Baptist Church as the funeral dinner leader and cook for Falls Creek Youth Camp. She was famous for her yeast and cinnamon rolls, fried potatoes, and homemade candy. She also volunteered for the local food bank, was a member of the Eastern Star and loved to garden, sew, redo furniture and read.  

Most of all, Betty was known for being a loving sister, constant friend and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her children Vickie and husband Bill Walters of Waurika, Robert Morris Jr of Waurika and daughter-in-law Tina Morris of Comanche. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly McCord, husband Billy McCord and daughters Kiera of Empire, and daughter Nita Folwer and husband Hunter Fowler of Duncan Tracy (Monica) Kenneda of Lawton and daughters Deelesa Lewis of Waurika, Samantha Meechum of Lawton and Sierra Fairchild of Tennessee; Crystal Weeres, husband Ryan Weeres and son Jonah Zaragoza and daughters Lyla and Julia Zaragoza of Okarche, Heather Decher, husband Matt Decher and sons Austin Cook, Noah Morris and Levi Decher of Moore, Savanah Morris, partner Tim Mashall and daughter Gwendolyn of Frisco, Texas as well as numerous additional great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Tim, Dwayne, Diane, Darlene, Anthony and Larry, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a world of friends.  

She is preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 60 years, Robert Sr., and siblings Charlene, Kenneth and Garland.  

A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church of Ryan, officiated by Pastor and family friend, Mark Kunkel, on Saturday, July 10.

The family requests memorial donations go to the Sugden Cemetery.
