Cross country runs at conference meet

The Comanche High School cross country teams were shorthanded in the Lake Country Conference meet held in Marietta last Saturday.

The Lady Indians had just one runner, while the Indians were not able to post a team score as they had just three runners.

“The times weren’t that great, but it was really, really muddy,” said Jason Miller, head coach. “It was a mess. If it would have been any other meet, we probably wouldn’t have gone and picked up another race later down the road.”

In the boys race, Austin James placed 49th to lead Comanche with a time of 24:27.55 in the 5K race. He finished two spots ahead of teammate Jaxson Billingsley (25:44.49). Owen Bigford finished 59th (28:08.08).

Ryleigh Woody was the lone Comanche High School girl in the two-mile race. She finished 53rd with a time of 17:22.89.

The Jr. Indians also did not have enough runners to compete as a team but did get a second-place performance from Brycen Lassley, who ran the two miles in 12:25.79. He was a second-and-a-half behind the winner from Byng.

“In the first part of the race, he was in fourth and then took over the lead,” Miller said. “The guy who won it caught him in the last 400 meters.”

Aiden Frye finished 34th (15:36.18) for the Jr. Indians.

The Jr. Lady Indians were the only Comanche team to post a team score. They finished fifth out of eight teams with 127 points in the 1.5-mile race.

Comanche was led by Brilee Combs, who finished 13th (10:47.66). Jillian Evans was second on the team (11:13.24) and was followed closely behind by Karsynn Bowles, who finished 20th (11:33.72).

Kilee Frye was next (13:19.90) in 45th place, followed by Mellanie Lumbert in 46th (13:27.04). Jorja Burns was 54th (14:00.16) and Kahlen Morris was 70th (17:45.40).
