Billy Joe Barnes

Billy Joe Barnes was born May 28,1935 in the Diamond Community near Comanche to James B. and Lavern (Box) Barnes. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Sept. 24, 2021 in Amarillo, Texas. He was 86.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Ledford and Wayne Thompson.

Bill lived most of his life in Stephens County. He moved to Amarillo in 2019 to be with family. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was always up for an adventure, made us laugh and never met a stranger. His grandkids and great-grandkids were his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Becky Tidwell and husband Jeff Tidwell of Red River, New Mexico, son Ricky Barnes, long-time companion Juanice Carrol, brother Danny Barnes of Comanche. His grandchildren, Stephen Tidwell/Kristin, Alyson Cook/ Tanner Cook, Tosha Baird/Chelsea Paxson/Jarod, Tosha Baird/Dakota, Great Grands Taylor Cook, Clara Cook, Benjamin Tidwell, Caroline Tidwell, Oliver Baird, Sawyer Baird, Presley Paxson, and Alaia Paxson.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James Bartlett and Margret Lavern (Box) Barnes and brother Jimmy Wayne Barnes.
