A Chickasha man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a Comanche man in October 2021.

According to court records, Mark Lamar James Richardson, 50, is responsible for the death of Joshua “Cam” Edgar, 31, after Edgar was found unresponsive by his wife at their residence on County Road 2790 west of Comanche on Oct. 1.

According to court records, family members told investigators Edgar was in pain from having three shoulder surgeries from playing football and he would go buy pain pills from Richardson in Chickasha.

Edgar had questioned Richardson a few times about the pills he was receiving because they were sometimes different color or stamped differently. Richardson allegedly told Edgar that they were all good.

An autopsy report, though, said that Edgar had not taken pain pills but had a lethal amount of Fentanyl in his system from the drugs allegedly purchased from Richardson earlier in the day. Investigators found text messages between the two men on the day of Edgar’s death revealed the two allegedly making an arrangement to meet in Chickasha.

After getting back in the early afternoon, Edgar allegedly took some of the pills before his wife left to pick up their children from school. After returning, she found him unresponsive and first responders were called.

According to the affidavit, there had been a considerable amount of illegal drug activity involving blue-colored pills that are made from Fentanyl.

Richardson is currently charged with distribution of controlled and dangerous substances with intent to distribute in Grady County from an arrest in late October.
