Track qualifies nine for state

Nine track athletes will represent Comanche High School at the Class 3A State Track Meet this Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City at Western Heights. As a team, the Comanche girls finished sixth and the boys were seventh at the regional meet last week at Plainview.

In field events, Alayna Nichols and Brooklynn Walden will be making the trip. Nichols won the regional shot put title with a toss of 34-02.5. Walden placed third in long jump with a mark of 14-05.5.

Landon Ellis and Logan Bain added regional championships to their resumes. Ellis won the 3200 meters with a time of 10:14.24, which was seven seconds ahead of second place. Brycen Lassley’s time of 10:50.01 was good enough to qualify him for state. He finished fifth at the regional.

Bain won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.75 seconds to qualify for state. He also qualified in the 300-meter hurdle, finishing third with a time of 42.49 seconds. Noah Presgrove’s time of 42.91 seconds was good enough to qualify for state as he finished fourth at the regional less than a half-second behind Bain.

Jaylee Miller qualified for state in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.65 seconds. She finished fourth at the regional.

Freshman Karsynn Bowles qualified for state in the 3200 meters with a time of 15:06 to finish third in the event.

Another freshman, Brilee Combs, qualified in the 1600 meters by finishing third with a time of 5:57.
