Janice K. Vernon

Janice K. Vernon, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 26, 2022 at her home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Ray of Hope Church at 10:00 a.m., with Josh Croswell and Mark Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Visitation and viewing will be Sunday, May 29th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Comanche First Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00-3:30.

Janice was born October 13, 1946 in Roosevelt, OK, to Elwood and Bertie Faye (Lett) Wilson. She graduated from Tushka High School, she later received her Bachelors Degree from USAO, and her Masters Degree from The University of Oklahoma. She began her career in education at Irving Elementary School in Duncan, OK. She also taught in Texas and California before coming back to Oklahoma. She taught at Liberty Elementary and also served as Principal. She then accepted the job as principal at Comanche Elementary School, where she served for many years. She loved all of her students and faculty at the schools where she worked. She and Gene Vernon were united in marriage on October 12, 1996 at Parkview Baptist Church in Duncan. Her passion was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved them so much and she loved spending time with them. She also loved her church. She and Gene were active member s at Comanche First Baptist Church. Her favorite hobby was gardening; she loved planting flowers and watching them grow. . Her constant companion was her dog, “Wiggles”.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; her sons: Matthew Monteith and wife Tochi, Duncan, OK, Mark Monteith and wife Megan, Duncan, OK, Jeffery Vernon and wife Lori, Jenks, OK, Timothy Vernon, Piedmont, OK, Steven Vernon and wife Stephanie, Edmond, OK, and Rick Wilson and wife Rebecca, Sapulpa, OK; her 17 grandchildren: Mitchell, Mace, Maelyn, Marston, Parker, Corbin, Sara, Valorie, Rachel, Steven, Christina, Caleb, Blake, Jacob, Jared, Stephanie, and Michael; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings: Donald Wilson and wife Ann, Tulsa, OK, Avis Wagoner and husband Dave, Colorado Springs, CO, Dwayne Wilson and wife Joe Ann, Atoka, OK, and Connie Norton and husband Ron, Duncan, OK; and many nieces, nephews, countless friends, and many, many former students.

Janice was preceded by her parents, Elwood and Bertie Wilson.
