Heather’s Hope Housing has a positive impact on the local community

by Pam Dobbins

Some of you may not know much about the Heather’s Hope Housing program in our community. Heather’s Hope is an amazing ministry of Christian Helping Hands that offers women coming from difficult life situations a chance to overcome their circumstances and have an opportunity to start building a new life of independence by getting back on the right path as they overcome past mistakes and enter into a bright new future.

While in the Heather’s Hope Housing program residents receive assistance with job-searching, transportation, budgeting skills, access to supportive services, loving friendships and faith-based support to help them restore self-confidence and establish a safe home with stability and continued support.

It is a place they can become self-sufficient and productive while learning to give back to society as they build a brighter future for themselves, their children and the world around them.

Not only does Heather’s Hope have a positive impact on the women who enter our program, these women have a positive impact on our community.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, many of the regular Christian Helping Hands volunteers could not continue to help at the Clothes Closet or the Food Pantry. Fortunately, the Heather’s Hope ladies stepped up and worked diligently 20-25 hours per week to provide food assistance for about 300 families every month. These ladies unloaded 15,000 pounds of food or more from the Regional Food Bank truck twice a month. They packed food boxes, delivered food to those who could not get out and kept the pantry clean.
Additionally, they moved bags of clothing donations at the Clothes Closet and sorted through them, putting them on hangers and shelves. They even cleaned and organized the clothes closet so there would be easy access for customers to shop once it opened back up.
Some of the ladies volunteered at the Senior Nutrition Center to help provide 80-100 hot meals daily to adults in our community.
Currently, the Heather’s Hope ladies are employed at local businesses and still volunteer at Christian Helping Hands ministries.

Fay worked most of the summer at the City of Comanche Golf Course and is currently in school to get her CDL license. Jill and Cindy are full-time employees at Delbert’s Grocery Store. Ashley works at Carl’s Jr. full time and has a second job at Shabby Chick. Sylvia has worked for 15 months at Country Club Care in Duncan. Every one of these ladies is involved in a local church and recently shared their testimonies with the youth at Patterson Ave. Baptist Church.
They are building good relationships with families and friends and establishing homes in our community. Sylvia and Ashley have children attending the Comanche Elementary School and they are involved in local sports programs.
Each of these ladies has a positive impact in our community and they support Christian Helping Hands/Heather’s Hope as we strive to support the best hometown ever by restoring families and strengthening homes through a foundation of faith in Jesus Christ.
We are thankful for all your support and hope you get to meet one of these amazing ladies soon.
