CHS girls finish second at Latta

The Comanche Lady Indians placed second at the Latta Panther Tournament last weekend. The boys lost in the consolation championship game.

Comanche took a five-point lead after the first quarter and steadily built on it throughout the rest of the game.

All nine Comanche players finished in the scoring column, led by Gracee Miller with 18 points. Kynli Morris was second with 10 points, followed by Kamrey Rendon with nine, Kylie Roden with eight and Karsynn Bowles with three. Brilee Combs, Breelie Garlinger, Jillian Hushbeck and Jentry Whaley had two points each.

Comanche, the No. 3 seed, upset No. 2 seed Silo and handed the No. 6 ranked team in 3A their first loss of the season.

Miller had a season-high 31 points in the game. Rendon was second with 11 points and Bowles had 10. Whaley had five points and Morris and Garlinger had two points each.

The Lady Warriors bolted out to a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and then held on the rest of the way to win the championship game.

Miller had 21 points to lead Comanche, followed by Roden with 10, Bowles with nine, Morris with four and Garlinger with one.

The Indians pushed the hosts to the limit, but fell short in the end.

Briar Blair led Comanche with 20 points. Dillon Ellis was second on the team with 12 points, followed by Colby Shannon with nine. Hunter Lassley was next with seven points, Corbin Bowen had three and Thomas Dobbins had two.

After falling behind 13-6 in the first quarter, Comanche rallied to take a 22-20 halftime lead and then pulled away for good in the fourth quarter.

Blair had 11 points and Shannon had 10 to lead Comanche. Lassley was next with nine, followed by Dillon Ellis with six, Bowen with five, Dobbins with three, Blayden Cook with three and Gunner King with two.

The Indians could not hold onto a second half lead as Silo rallied to get the win.

Dillon Ellis, who was held scoreless in the first half, scored 10 straight points in the third quarter and ended up with 14 points in the game. Lassley led the team with 15 points. Bowen and Blair had three points each and King and Shannon had two points each.
