The Comanche cross country teams got their season underway at Duncan last Saturday morning.

All four Comanche teams each had at least two runners in the top 20 in their respective races.

“For the first meet of the year, I thought we did well,” said Jason Miller, head coach. “Based on last year’s times, I thought they did better than I thought they would with this year’s temperatures. The high school girls did great. We are going to keep putting in work and continue to get better. The high school boys did good also, they just need to get some more miles in. I was proud of all the junior high.”

In high school boys, the Indians placed fifth as a team and were just one point shy of finishing in fourth. Duncan won the team event, followed by Elgin, Altus, the Elgin JV and then Comanche.

Brycen Lassley led the Indians with a ninth place overall finish. The junior ran a time of 19:50.22 in the 5k race. Aiden Frye, a freshman, finished 18th overall for Comanche with a time of 21:07.49. He was followed by Gage Jessen in 28th, Hunter Lassley in 39th, Makisig Rogers in 42nd, Hayden Harget in 47th and Erik Roy in 59th.

Brilee Combs had the highest finish of all Comanche runners, finishing third in the small school girls’ two-mile race.

The Lady Indians did not have a team score as they only had four runners competing.

Combs finished 26 seconds behind first place Jessie Foster-Anderson of Velma-Alma and five seconds behind Savanna Wainscott of Velma-Alma. The Lady Comets easily won the team event.

Comanche also got a top 10 finish from Karsynn Bowles, who finished eighth with a time of 14:50.92. Ava Foraker was third on the team in 16th place and Karlye Anderson was 31st.

In junior high boys, Ridge Hall paced the Jr. Indians by placing 17th overall in the 1.5-mile race with a time of 11:33.29 and Joseph Jando was 20th with a time of 11:46.25 Brockton Whitfield finished 49th and Flynn Wright was 60th.

In junior high girls, Comanche placed sixth as a team behind Duncan, Velma-Alma, Altus, Elgin and Eisenhower.
