Summer Breeze to headline GOP Chilil Cookoff
October 23, 2024
Republicans in Stephens County are working on their recipes for the upcoming GOP Chili Cookoff scheduled for Saturday, October 26th at the Stephens County Fairgrounds.
“This is the 19th year for this event,” said County Chairman Leon Farris, “and we are excited to announce that Summer Breeze will be providing live music for us this year.”
Summer Breeze is an award winning area band that has performed throughout the state for many years and is known for it’s presentation of Eagle’s music along with songs from the past decades in different genres. They have been judged the Oklahoma Country Band of the Year, Texoma Band of the Year, and True Value Country Showdown finalist, performing since 1976,
The event will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and offers a family friendly atmosphere featuring free chili sampling along with big screen TV football, Karaoke, a kids carnival game room, a professional clown, a magician and a character artist. No admission is charged for the event.
“We expect 30-35 chili cooks,” said Farris, “and we have space for a few more. We divide into two groups, either political or non-political supporters. Each chili cook provides three or more gallons of chili to serve, they decorate a booth, and celebrity judges then select first, second and third places for the chili and the chili booth. People in attendance help decide the Peoples Choice award by purchasing a cup for a dollar, which they can fill up with their favorite chili and a ticket to nominate their favorite to win the award.
Farris said there would be a drawing for door prizes toward the end of the evening for gift cards and memorabilia to those who register and visit each booth.
Children are encouraged to wear their halloween costumes and trick or treat the booths for candies and goodies. A concession stand offers chips, hotdogs, cookies, brownies and drinks as well.
“This is the most fun event we do,” Farris chuckled, "and we invite anyone to bring their families to the fairgrounds on Saturday."
The Stephens County Fairgrounds is located at 2002 South 13th in Duncan.
Anyone wishing to join as a chili cook can contact Leon Farris at 580-656-7951.
