Goebel enjoys time in Comanche
Henri Goebel may not have known how to play football when he stepped on the field for the Comanche Indians, but that did not stop him from becoming endeared to his coaches and fellow players.
Goebel, a German exchange student, got the most out of his semester experience at Comanche High School.
“It was pretty wild because I didn’t know about the sport at all because we really don’t have football in Germany,” Goebel said. “The coaches here at Comanche taught me everything. I didn’t play that much, but I enjoyed every minute.”
He also got another uniquely American experience by representing the junior class on the football homecoming court.
“It was a cool and good experience,” Goebel said.
Goebel, a competitive swimmer back home in Germany, also played basketball for the Indians.
At the football banquet, the team honored Goebel by gifting him his jersey signed by all his teammates.
“We’re definitely going to miss him,” Comance football coach Gary Robinson said at the banquet. “Everyone here just loves him. He’s an awesome young man and I wanted to tell him that I was going to miss him.”
He will be leaving Comanche having enjoyed his time as an Indian.
“It was a good experience and everybody was so nice,” Goebel said.
A healthy Stephens County requires great community news.
