A family feud led to the shooting of a Duncan man southwest of Comanche last week, according to court records.

According to the affidavit, the sheriff’s department was dispatched on Dec. 18 at approximately 6:23 p.m. to a residence on E 1840 Road, approximately 1.6 miles east of Grandview School.

In the affidavit, the deputy said he had been advised that two subjects, later identified as Dakota Lokey and his brother-in-law Tyler Maddox, had been fighting and that one of the subjects, Maddox, had been shot.

When the deputy arrived on the scene, Maddox was being tended to by first responders. He was taken by ambulance to Duncan Regional Hospital where he was then flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

After the scene was secured, a witness was asked to meet with the deputy at the sheriff’s department in Duncan.

Upon arriving at the sheriff’s office, the witness was interviewed by authorities.

The witness stated that Maddox came over in the morning of Dec. 18 to help Lokey do some work. Around noon, Maddox and Lokey then went to Maddox’s house. Approximately two hours later, the witness went and picked up her child at the residence where she allegedly saw Lokey trying to hide a bottle of hard liquor.

According to the affidavit, the two men returned to Lokey’s residence and were said to be intoxicated. The witness said they went into the kitchen to get something to eat when Maddox allegedly threw food which hit a child in the face. This led to a fist fight between the two men. The witness said when she tried to intervene that she was accidentally struck.

The witness said the two men eventually quit fighting and went outside onto the patio. The witness thought the incident was over until she heard the two men arguing again. They came back inside and continued to argue. The witness said that Lokey allegedly told Maddox several times that if he didn’t leave he was going to shoot him. Lokey reportedly went to the bedroom with Maddox following where he was allegedly heard to say, “What are you going to do, shoot me?”

The witness saw the two men struggling before hearing two gun shots. The witness then ran into the room and Lokey allegedly placed a gun in his waistband as Maddox was lying on the floor in pain. At the time of the shooting, the witness had been on the phone with the dispatcher.

The witness said it was not the first time Lokey had threatened to shoot Maddox. It had happened approximately three months prior as well. According to the affidavit, Lokey said he was going to shoot and kill Maddox and went as far as taking guns with him to the end of the driveway to wait for Maddox to show up.

The witness said she did not know if the gun was initially loaded, but didn’t think he had enough time to load it before the shots. The witness said the first shot could have been an accident as they were fighting over the gun, but she didn’t believe the second shot was accidental.

After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, the deputy took photos of the scene and searched for other evidence. He said he noticed a large pool of blood that had soaked into the carpet in the bedroom and also saw the revolver Lokey allegedly used to shoot Maddox. Another deputy unloaded the revolver and found two spent casings and four other rounds in it. One bullet was found on the bedroom floor.

Lokey was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. He was released on a $150,000 bond.

Maddox was last reported in stable condition at the hospital.
