Comanche girls dominate in third place game

COMANCHE - The Comanche Lady Indians put together one of their most dominating performances of the season to claim third place in the Stephens County Tournament with a 65-33 win over Ryan.

The Lady Indians never trailed, scoring the first eight points of the game and never looking back. Ryan never got closer than six points the rest of the game.

“The shots went in tonight and I thought our length really bothered them,” said Braydon Robinson, Comanche’s head coach. “They had really good guards, but our guards were bigger and it bothered them defensively. And offensively, we did a really good job of finally getting the ball inside and going inside out.”

It was an especially good win coming off a loss in the semifinals to Empire on Thursday.

“We were feeling sorry for ourselves Friday,” Robinson said. “So, the first 10 minutes of practice, we had a pretty big meeting where it was about the “E” word and I didn’t want to hear another word about them after the meeting. It was all about Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. I thought our girls did a good job putting that past them and focusing on the next game.”

Eight Lady Indians found themselves in the scoring column, with Kylie Roden leading the way with 22 points. Overall, Comanche knocked down eight three-pointers in the contest.

The Lady Indians led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and 38-15 at th half. They kept the momentum going in the third, taking a 53-20 lead into the final quarter.

“I thought Jaylee Roebuck did a really good job for us on the boards like she has all year,” Robinson said. “She’s just now starting to score but she rebounds very well even though she’s not our biggest girl, she she has great effort and hustle off the boards. Kamrey (Rendon’s) shooting is starting to come along and Kylie has been a big playmaker and does a great job of getting her teammates involved.”
