State Senator Darrell Weaver, a Comanche native, announced Tuesday that he will be a Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor. The GOP primary will take place on June 30, 2026.
“Combining my law enforcement and legislative service with my business experience will allow me to be an effective Lieutenant Governor working to address the pressing problems facing Oklahomans,” Weaver said.
Weaver said a formal kickoff would take place later this year, but wanted to make his intentions official by filing campaign committee paperwork with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission.
Weaver was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2018 to serve District 24, encompassing Moore and part of south Oklahoma City. He won reelection in 2022 without opposition. Weaver’s current Senate committee assignments include appropriations, general government and transportation, aeronautics and transportation, business and insurance, public safety, and rules.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve in the State Senate. With my common-sense conservative approach to governing, I have championed legislation dealing with many issues, such as public safety, victims’ rights, small business, and Second Amendment rights. I have strongly advocated for our growing aerospace industry and the need to enhance economic and workforce development and promote tourism opportunities,” Weaver said.
Weaver served Oklahoma for over 28 years in state law enforcement with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, the last nine years as the Director. During his time leading OBNDD, the agency successfully sought stronger state laws to battle human trafficking and the deadly flow of deadly illegal drugs by the Mexican cartels.
In 2021, Weaver was appointed to the National Board of Commissioners for CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). Weaver is an inductee of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
Weaver was a long-time elected trustee of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Retirement System (OLERS) and a member of the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) governing council.
From 2015 to 2018, Weaver served as the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma before successfully making his first bid for public office.
Weaver earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Cameron University, his MBA from Oklahoma Christian University, and an honorary Doctor of Pharmacy. Weaver received Cameron’s 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award and, in 2013, was named an “Acclaimed Aggie”.
Weaver is an alumnus of Leadership Oklahoma Class XXXIII, Leadership Oklahoma City Class XXIX, the 2013 Leadership Moore Class, Leadership Tulsa Class 54, the TEAM South OKC Leadership Program, the 2011 Tinker Air Force Base COMMstar Program, and the Salt and Light Leadership Training (SALLT).
Weaver is a Christian author who has been a speaker at men’s groups, youth camps, and church gatherings across Oklahoma. He served for many years as a volunteer youth football and basketball coach.
Weaver is a fourth-generation Oklahoman who grew up in Comanche. He and his wife, Kim, a physician, have five children, live in Moore, and attend Capitol Hill Assembly Church. The Weavers own and operate Weaver Clinics in five communities. They are active members of several chambers of commerce.
A fitness enthusiast, Weaver holds a personal trainer certificate from the Cooper Institute and graduated from the inaugural CrossFit instructor’s course. Weaver is a pilot and enjoys flying with his wife.
