Frye's Garage off to good start

by Todd Brooks

Dustin Frye opened Frye’s Garage at 129 S. Rodeo in Comanche back in mid-September and business has been steady ever since.

“I got some business from people at my church and word of mouth, so it’s kept me pretty busy,” Frye said.

Frye moved to Comanche four years ago from Hobbs, New Mexico, where he was employed as a truck mechanic. When he and his family moved here, he worked as a mechanic in Lawton before becoming a business owner.

“As a single father of seven, it was important for me to be where my kids are,” Frye said.

His children range in age from 14 to 5.

“I have one in every building at the school,” Frye said with a laugh.

Frye’s Garage does general auto repair, oil changes and work on diesel and gas engines. He said he’s even worked on a few lawnmowers.

“This is my first time owning a business, so it’s been a little nerve-racking at times,” Frye said. “Fortunately, I have a business partner that helps me out.”

Frye has been working on cars for most of his life since he was a teenager.

And he’s glad to be a part of the community.

“I love it here in Comanche and I love being here with my kids,” Frye said. “It’s like stepping back in time. Everyone is generous and generally respectful to you.”
